This little program was created initially to just send some ring tones I paid for to my replacement phone. However, I saw that there seemed to be a need for a small program to allow copying of files from the main file system to the MyData directory so that these files could be used for MMS, backup, and vmo file archiving. So here it is. Not guaranteed to work, not guaranteed to be stable or anything like that. Download at your own risk.
1) Get the S56FileTransfer.jar file and S56FileTransfer.jad files.
2) The program consists of a jar and a jad file. You need to send both of these to your phone somehow. Here are a few suggestions:
1) To use the program, go to the S56's menu and go to file manager. Navigate to the directory where you stored the jar file and open it.
2) The first screen you see will have a select and exit button on it. Click on the select button.
3) At this point the phone will ask you if you want to grant the Java application access to the A: directory (which is the root). Java
programs are limited in which directories they can freely access so the systems asks the user for permission. Click yes here.
Note: You will be asked the same security question several times as you navigate through the file system. Click yes in each case.
4) The listing of all the files and directories in the root of the phone will be displayed. Navigate through the system until you find the file
you want to copy. Hitting select on directories automatically descends the directory tree, and hitting it on files selects a file to perform an operation
on.
5) After selecting the file you will be taken back the the previous screen where it will show you the full path of the file you selected. There should also be
an options button. Pressing the options button brings up a menu. You can currently only copy files, not transmit them directly. See the known issues
section.
6) Now you must select a destination directory. Here you can again choose any directory. The same instructions apply for the security access questions that the system asks.
7) The interface on this screen is a little tricky. Select actually selects the directory that is highlighted as the destination, whereas Open just opens the directory and
descends the directory tree. When you go below the root directory the open button becomes an option menu and has an option of going back up one level, or to open a directory.
8) After you select the directory the file copy should begin...
Note: Using the "End" button on the S56 is the same as the "back" option on the soft key.
